It’s no secret that as we age, our faces and bodies start to look a little different. We may not be able to stop the hands of time, but there are ways to maintain our beauty as we grow older. Here are some tips to help keep you looking young and healthy.

1. Make sure to drink plenty of water.

Water is the elixir of life, and it’s just as important when you’re in your golden years. By staying hydrated, your skin will be healthier, more supple, and free of wrinkles.

2. Nourish your body with proper nutrition.

Your body needs all sorts of nutrients to stay healthy, so it’s important to make sure you are getting the proper balance of vitamins, minerals, proteins, etc. A healthy body leads to a healthy appearance.

3. Exercise regularly.

Exercise is excellent for your skin, hair, and nails because it helps improve circulation and blood flow. Working out also makes your skin more supple and glowing by improving collagen production. Regular exercise should take about 20 minutes a day, three times a week.

4. Visit a spa.

A visit to the spa is like recharging your skin with all sorts of vitamins and minerals. You’ll leave feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and looking your best from the different treatments that they can offer.

5. Protect your skin from the sun.

The sun is one of the most significant contributors to wrinkles and aging, so it’s important to always protect yourself when going outside. Wear sunscreen with an SPF 15 or higher every day — rain or shine — and wear sunglasses that block out UVA/UVB rays.

6. Get good sleep.

This isn’t always easy considering all the activities people have during their day, but it’s important to get eight to nine hours of sleep every night so you can wake up looking refreshed and rejuvenated.

7. Regularly consult with your doctor.

Your doctor can help to keep you healthy both inside and out. They should be able to detect ailments that can affect your health and your appearance, as well as treat them as early as possible. Additionally, your doctor will be able to tell you when you need to take better care of your skin or what procedures can help rejuvenate it.

8. Don’t forget to go to the dental clinic.

Proper dental hygiene can go a long way. Periodontal disease, for example, can lead to the loss of tissue and bone, which makes your teeth look yellow or worn out. Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day, floss at least once every 24 hours, and visit the dentist regularly for cleanings.

9. Use gentle, non-drying cleansers on your skin.

Make sure that your skin is getting the nourishment it needs by using gentle, non-drying cleansers on it each day. Avoid harsh soaps with chemicals and perfumes.

10. Go for a natural look when applying makeup.

Don’t slap on too much makeup — go for more of a natural look. Darker makeup can age you and make your skin look dull, so apply it sparingly. And, of course, always wear sunscreen underneath your makeup, so you don’t get wrinkles or dark spots on your skin.

11. Avoid repeating the same hairstyles over and over again.

If you’re wearing a ponytail every day, switch it up to something different mixed with your style. Try to avoid styles that pull on your hair because it can cause you to lose more of it over time, and be sure to use gentle shampoo and conditioner at least twice a week.

12. Maintain healthy, trimmed nails.

Keeping your nails cut up into a nice shape is the best way to maintain them without having to get them manicured. Make sure you use a nail file and moisturize your hands regularly. If you want to go with a polished look, make sure that the polish is more of a clear coat rather than something dark and bold because that can age your appearance more quickly.

13. Reduce stress in your life.

Stress is one of the biggest contributors to the aging process, so it’s important to reduce the amount of stress in your life wherever possible. This isn’t always easy, but try taking a yoga class or meditating once a week — they can both help to keep you calm and relaxed.

14. Embrace who you are.

You cannot stop your body from aging, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it bother you. Embrace your body the way that it is, and learn to love yourself for who you are instead of trying to fit into some sort of unrealistic model.

Maintaining a youthful appearance takes some work, but it’s easier than you might think. Follow these 14 tips to keep your skin looking young and fresh as the years pass by!
